The ARPIM Code is a set of ethical rules that ARPIM members follow when promoting prescription medicines to healthcare professionals (HCPs) and interacting with them and healthcare organizations (HCOs). The goal is to make sure all activities are professional, responsible, and ethical.
The Code covers:
– How prescription-only medicines are promoted to HCPs.
– How companies interact with HCPs and HCOs.
– Disclosure of transfers of value (ToVs) from companies to HCPs and HCOs.
– Procedures companies must follow to comply with the Code.
Companies are responsible for following the Code, even if they hire others to do some work for them. They must also ensure their partners follow the rules.
The Code applies to all types of promotion, including:
– Speaking and written communications
– Advertising and sales activities
– Digital content like websites and social media
– Videos, educational materials, and medical samples
– Hospitality at events
The Code does NOT cover:
– Promotions aimed only at the general public about non-prescription medicines
– Labels and leaflets on medicines
– Non-promotional answers to specific questions about medicines
– Informative materials without claims, like safety warnings or price lists
– Non-prescription medicine activities
– Non-promotional company info like financial or research updates
In short, the ARPIM Code helps ensure all promotions and interactions with healthcare professionals are done with honesty and respect.
